Research at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technologies

Research is done at 22 different institutes at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technologies. The brought spectrum of scientific exploration at these institutes addresses topics from four focus areas: Energy, Mobility, Marine Technology and Biomedical Technology.

Here in Rostock we are working on critical challenges modern societies have to solve. This includes efficient and environmentally benign provision of energy as well as its storage. Hydrogen technologies are growing subjects of research at different institutes of the faculty. Enabling mobility and transport, particularly for marine applications, is a traditional core of the faculty. New demands in this field regarding climate neutrality are addressed by the development of novel technologies for propulsion systems and other parts of naval energy systems. Our forth focal area, Biomedical Technology, aims at providing cutting-edge solutions for medical problems utilizing technics from material science and fluid dynamics.
